Souvenir Items

I got these gifts  items from Hongkong this week. These are magnetic souvenirs of  some interesting things about the region - tourist bus on the central business district, ocean park and the harbor. Hongkong is one of the world's leading international financial center, with a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade. I think this is the reason why many people visit this country for vacation and pleasure. I have now added these souvenirs from Hongkong on my collection. I hope to visit this country soon.

Floor Rug

Its a  good timing during the sale week of the kadayawan festival because I had a chance to bought some floor rugs for home. It is made of recycled materials of cloth, hand made and sewed for sale at the mall. I bought three (3) pieces for the kitchen, bathroom and living room. This a good way of helping the local makers of rug here and also  for the environmental awareness and concern.

Red Carpet

A shot taken at the hotel hallway where I stayed for  the workshop this weekend. I was looking for my room number 212 and found out that the hallway was carpeted in bright red. Walking here was so soft and comfortable. This picture just fits for the theme of the day. Happy Red Day to all!

Miss Universe 4th Runner-up - Venus Raj

The live telecast of the Miss Universe 2010 is  so exciting today  because Miss Philippines Venus Raj is fourth runner-up. She is the country's pride after competing with other 83 contestants from around the world. There were controversies here before because Venus was almost stripped of her crown  when the organizers found out some inconsistencies regarding  her birth certificate . She was brave enough and tried to win back her title and represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant. You are a true Filipina beauty and the country is so  happy to celebrate your victory.Congratulations!

Today's Flowers

These were floral arrangements in the hotel where I stayed this weekend. Different kinds of flowers like lilies, daisies, roses, carnation and some green leaves were beautifully displayed in the lobby area. I am happy to share this picture for today's flowers to everyone. Have a great week to all!

NDP Workshop

I  enjoyed the NDP workshop conducted by Fern at Grand Menseng Hotel last August 20-22. It was a live-in workshop and many participants from the different parts of the country  joined here in Davao for the said event. My cousin paid for me to join this workshop and since it was my first time in this kind of activity, I just observed on how would be the process. During the entire workshop I learned a lot of things and met many people who shared with the purpose of the company as vision driven for the year 2010. This event was truly meaningful and memorable for me.

PAL Crisis

Philippine Airlines (PAL)  the flag carrier is in the headlines for the past days. It had to cancel several domestic and international flights after some of its pilots quit without giving enough notice.Three flights to Hong Kong and at least eight domestic flights were cancelled after pilots left to join airlines abroad, PAL said in a statement. The indiscriminate resignation of the A320 pilots... is in violation of their contract with PAL as well as with pertinent government regulations that require resigning pilots to give PAL six months' notice," the statement said. The airline said it would be filing "appropriate charges" against the pilots who still owe PAL for the cost of their training. The statement did not say how many pilots had resigned or where they were going to work. Airline spokesmen could not be contacted for comment. However sources in the PAL employees' union said the resignations were in reaction to a plan by the airline to lay off thousands of employees and outsource their positions. For me this is a wake up call to the government and to the management of the airline. Everybody should be responsible for what happened. The company should not blame  or make the financial crisis as the reason why they did not give attention to the issues of the pilots. I think its very practical for the pilots to grab the good opportunities abroad rather than staying with PAL without job assurance and security of tenure. The government for this time should give more focus on the welfare of the people rather than those few capitalists who take more benefit from profit just for their own.

Monday Celebration

Today is a special day as the whole agency celebrates its 106th anniversary . Early this morning a mass was held at the district office. Everybody joined the thanksgiving prayer with the monsignor of the diocese. The organizers served snacks after the mass and at lunch time meals were offered to every section. It was not as lavished compared the other year but the spirit of the celebration is still within the camaraderie of everybody.
